I would recommend any of Mitch Alboms book... i most recently read for one more day - gave it to my mam straight away and even had a little cry when i read it - we never realise how we can hurt the people we most love - this book opened by eyes big time.

The men's Bible Study read "Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire" by Jim Cymbala as a group.
The story is about an old church in New York City that is revived by the power of prayer.
Lots and Lots of prayer.  They prayed about everything, they have prayer meetings that
last for hours.  Needless to say, the church is alive and well these days with thousands
of members.  Most members were of dubious or notorious background but came to know Christ
through the open door policy of the Brooklyn Tabernacle.

Last year i read "QUIET STRENGTH" by Tony Dungy.  i like auto-biographies and his first book was all about
his life's history, the influence of his parents, and how God has led him in one direction or another from his childhood,
through school, college, his professional football playing and coaching career.  Here is the press release:

In the pages of this fascinating memoir, Tony Dungy reveals the secrets to his success-principles, practices, and priorities that have kept him on track despite overwhelming personal and professional obstacles, including firings, stereotypes, and the tragic loss of a child.

In the face of so much adversity, Tony has not only survived but risen to the very top of his profession in a way that’s won the respect of fans, players, and even his competitors. His thoughts on leading, succeeding, and attaining true significance will inspire you to take a long, hard look at the things that really matter in your own life.

i think i lent it out, but haven't got it back yet, but that's OK, i was given his new book "UNCOMMON" which appears
to be more of a "users manual" for a successful life.

One of my favorite books this year was "UNDER THE OVERRPASS"  by Mike Yankowsi. This is the story of Mike and his friend, Sam, who decided to leave everything behind for a few month and experience homeless first hand. Their experience gave me great insight into the life of a homeless person and increased my empathy for the homeless. Their adventure is entertaining and will move you to better understand the life of homelessness and how we can reach out to these ignored people that God still love's.

Thanks to Lauri Doshier for recommending the book. Most of my growth group and some breakfast buddies have read it resulting in a good dialog about homelessness.

I love recommendations of good books. what have you read recently that has moved you?

Hello Gateway,

I thought it would be great to have a forum that we could recommend and review our favorite books. I will start it, but please comment if you have read any of these books and better yet, share one of your favorite books.
